Register online for a temporary digital card

Vancouver residents can sign up online for a temporary digital library card to access digital resources (including ebooks), and place holds. This temporary card lasts for 60 days after registration. For a full permanent card, drop by any branch in person (with ID) to validate your account.

Eligibility:

  • You live or own property in the City of Vancouver.
  • You live on UBC Endowment Lands, in UBC family housing or in other specific locations at UBC. (Read the Library Card FAQ for more details on qualifying areas).
  • You live on Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm) Reserve #2 lands.

Temporary digital card registration - step 1

Step 1 - Go to the registration page

Go to the registration page. Then, click on the "New User" button (next to the Login button).

Step 2 - Enter your new account details

Fill in all the required fields and select “I agree” to submit. Make sure you remember the 4-digit PIN number you enter as you will need it to access your account. If you receive an error message, check that you have entered all the information exactly as shown (including a space in the postal code).

Step 3 - Save your login information

You will be given a temporary library card number which can be used with your PIN to access our Digital Library or to place holds on physical items. This account will expire in 60 days unless validated.

Step 4 - Validate your information in person to get your Library Card

To validate your account and receive your permanent card, visit any VPL branch. Make sure you bring personal identification and proof of current residential address.

Why is this card temporary?

A temporary digital card are intended to provide Vancouver residents with temporary access to thousands of digital items from home. Because access to these electronic resources is governed by license agreements that can vary depending on your city of residence, it is necessary to validate your account with ID and proof of address in person at a VPL branch.

When does a temporary digital library card expire?

An temporary digital library card lasts for 60 days after registration. For a full permanent card, drop by any branch in person (with ID) to validate your account.
