As the Vancouver Public Library is responsible for the well-being of its patrons, a Police Information check is a condition of employment. Disclosure of a criminal record may preclude you from employment with the library.

Police Information Checks Policy

VPL supports the purpose of the Criminal Records Review Act, RSBC 1996, c. 86 (the “Act”) Act, which is to help prevent the physical and sexual abuse of children and the physical, sexual and financial abuse of vulnerable adults by requiring individuals to whom the Act applies to undergo criminal record checks.

Under the Act, “working with children and vulnerable adults” means working with children and vulnerable adults directly or having or potentially having unsupervised access to children and vulnerable adults in the ordinary course of employment or in the practice of an occupation, or during the course of an education program or while providing services as a volunteer.
