Streaming Video Services

This guide provides information on free streaming video services - both those paid for by the Vancouver Public Library (VPL) and those which are free and available to everyone.

The streaming video services VPL pays for are:

  • Kanopy
  • World Cinema
  • Indigenous Film Collection
  • Black Studies in Video
  • Theatre in Video
  • National Theatre Collection
  • Royal Shakespeare Company Collection
  • medici.tv
  • Great Courses

There are also a considerable number of free streaming video sites available to anyone. For most (but not all) of them, you will need to watch ads. The free services covered in this guide are:

  • Pluto TV
  • tubi
  • PLEX
  • CBC Gem
  • CTV
  • Global
  • NFB (National Film Board)
  • Knowledge Network
  • YouTube
  • Other Services

VPL also subscribes to videos which have a skill learning focus.
