One Book, One Vancouver Events

 

 

From May to December, the Library is presenting over 40 exciting, interesting and educational events across the city for all ages designed to bring the books alive and encourage people – from 5 to 105 – to read.

Join us for author readings, chances to meet Olympic athletes, family skating celebrations, film screenings, writing workshops, puppet shows, contests and more.

Inaugural Reading - Janet Love Morrison
with special guest Steve Podborski

Join us for the first appearance of The Crazy Canucks author Janet Love Morrison as she talks about how the book came to be and reads from some of her favourite parts. Janet will be joined by very special guest Crazy Canuck and Olympic medallist Steve Podborski. Seating is limited; all are welcome.

The Host City Reads: Winter Sports Fair

Almost every hour of the day there's a sporting activity happening in Vancouver. Find out about the wealth of winter sports opportunities around us and how you can get involved, meet local athletes, amateur sports associations and more. Seating is limited; all are welcome.

  • Cool Runnings
    In this off the wall comedy loosely based on a true story, four Jamaican athletes go to crazy extremes to compete as bobsled racers at the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary Canada. Great fun for the whole family!

Learn how to capture the intense action of athletes and sporting events with professional photographer Wendy D. and get the tips and tricks of the trade.

  • Explore the best f-stops and shutterspeeds to capture that action without blur

  • Find out where to stand to get the best shot

  • Learn what to look for, how to get things in focus and more

Teen Scene - Design a Bookmark Contest

The Library's annual Teen Bookmark Contest is always a hit with teens aged 13 to 18 years. Show off your creativity and artistic flair by designing a bookmark celebrating "winter reading." All participants are eligible for great prizes from Westbeach! Grand prize $250 cash! Full rules and contest details to be released in August 2009! Just for teens.
