VPL Announces Winners of Express Yourself Teen Bookmark Contest

Between November 15 and December 15, 2007, the Library invited teens aged 13 to 18 years old to show off their creativity and artistic flair by designing a bookmark celebrating teens and libraries. The winners of the 2007 Express Yourself Bookmark Contest are:

  • Angel Yu of Vancouver (age16) – Best Hand-Drawn Bookmark
  • Winnie Cao of Vancouver (age17) – Best Computer-Generated Bookmark

“We were very excited to see how creative this year’s entries are,” said VPL’s Teen Librarian Karen Sharkey. “We received over 220 fantastic bookmarks, which made it very difficult to narrow the selection down to just two. But our panel of judges were finally able to agreed that Angel and Winnie both had the right balance of creativity, vision and a clear message that we were looking for. Congratulations to them both!”

The winners in each category – Best Hand-Drawn Bookmark and Best Computer-Generated Bookmark – were selected by VPL’s Teen Advisory Group and the Young Adult Services Committee, based on creativity and artistic merit, as well as how their design reflected the contest theme of teens and libraries.

Angel and Winnie will receive cash prizes of $250 and their bookmarks will be printed and distributed at all 22 Vancouver Public Library locations across the city in February 2008.

VPL would like to thank the Friends of the Vancouver Public Library for providing the funding for this exciting project.
