Online Resource Changes
Vancouver Public Library prides itself on being a leader in the provision of digital information. We license online newspapers, magazines and have a collection of over 50,000 ebooks for Vancouver residents to use from home or on-the-go. Our commitment to digital information has not changed, however, provincial funding for library electronic resources has been eliminated; therefore, in 2010 we must reduce the number of resources we licence.
Since September, the Library has analyzed usage statistics and conducted a public survey and staff focus groups to determine a new suite of electronic databases to best meet library users’ needs. We have balanced broad subject coverage and cost-effective choices to preserve the most-important resources for our City.
