Additional Screening of The Riot at Christie Pits Offered by VPL & the Vancouver Jewish Film Festival
For Immediate Release August 1, 2008
(Vancouver, B.C.) -- Vancouver Public Library and the Vancouver Jewish Film Festival have added an additional screening date for the documentary film, The Riot at Christie Pits. Part of VPL’s One Book, One Vancouver city-wide book club and coinciding with the 75th anniversary of a race riot that has haunted Toronto to this day, the film is based on the award-winning book, The Riot of Christie Pits, a historical story which sheds light on the dark past of Toronto exposing the roots of racism directed at the Jewish community.
This event is part of the programming for this year's One Book, One Vancouver winner, The Five Books of Moses Lapinsky by Karen X. Tulchinsky. Now in its seventh year, One Book, One Vancouver continues to be Vancouver’s only city-wide book club, promoting and encouraging a culture of reading and discussion by bringing people together around one great book.
This One Book, One Vancouver event is presented by Vancouver Public Library and the Vancouver Jewish Film Festival with support from Raincoast Books, Book Warehouse, Friends of Vancouver Public Library, Spirit of Vancouver, the Writer's Union of Canada, Public Library Services Branch, Ministry of Education, Canada Council for the Arts, the Word on the Street Festival and The Vancouver Sun.
