Library Acquires Almost 1000 New eBooks

(Vancouver, British Columbia) - Covering subjects from health, business, biography, the arts and multicultural studies, Vancouver Public Library has just purchased access to close to 1,000 eBooks and is keen to show library users how to best use them.
This is the Library's largest one-time purchase of electronic resources and with the vendor, Gale-Cengage Learning, Library staff will offer customized training to the public on how to search, print, email and download books and articles on April 3 at the Central Library.
"We are thrilled to offer this important resource to the community," said City Librarian Paul Whitney. "This electronic reference collection is available online at every Vancouver Public Library branch and can also be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week from any computer whether people are looking for information on multiculturalism, the environment or how to market their small business in the global marketplace."
This extensive collection of full-length non-fiction books includes titles such as Contemporary Theatre, Film & Television, the Gale Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine and the Business Plans Handbook and access to millions of respected, authoritative essays on topics from A to Z. Users will be able to search one eBook or across the entire eBook collection to find information on topics as simple as looking up an historic date to areas as complex as scientific theories on climate change.
"Content can also be translated into eight languages, an important feature for a library system like ours which serves such a diverse community," Whitney added.
For those not able to attend one of the April 3 training sessions, staff can assist Library visitors discover this exciting new information resource. In addition to this eBook collection, an array of audio books can also be downloaded at the library or from a home or office computer. Again, Library staff can show users how to access this service.
