Geographical Information on CD-ROM

Many mapping and geographical products are available on CD-ROM. At the Vancouver Public Library, some are available for use only in the Library.

Reference CD-ROMs

The following CD-ROMs can only be used in the Library; they are loaded on the computer near the atlas stands. Request disks at the Level 6 information desk.

Cartopedia (1995)

Combines the cartographic qualities of an atlas with the background information of an encyclopedia and the analytic and statistical depth of a gazetteer.

Deluxe Compton's 3D World Atlas (1998)

A full world atlas that allows users to rotate, zoom and click, to explore different views of our complex planet through sixteen different full-screen globes. Other features include: narrated video documentaries, 3D virtual fly through, detailed satellite photography, comprehensive statistics, and vast online resources. Also includes Compton's Complete Street Guide (a complete set of U.S. road maps.)

Eartha Global Explorer (DeLorme) (1998)

Part general-reference world atlas, and part global travel-planning resource, Eartha also includes cultural and social statistics on countries of the world. Explore shaded relief maps made from enhanced satellite imagery of the entire planet, zoom in eight levels of magnification to see major and secondary roads, or activate Floyd, an animated travel agent, who will read to you the points of interest on the map.

National Geographic Maps (1999)

An 8 CD-ROM archive which includes every foldout map ever published by National Geographic Magazine. Multimedia map tours on the mapping of space, the environment, history and the underwater world and much more. View, pan and zoom in on maps for a global or close-up view.

Circulating CD-ROMs

There are also a variety of atlases, trip finders and mapping products published on CD-ROMs that are available to take home.

Access: Search the library catalogue using the Keyword Anywhere and Format Games and Interactive Media fields on the Advanced Search screen. In the Keyword Anywhere search box, enter terms such as:
