1916 Census Records
The microfilm version of the 1916 Census of the Prairie Provinces is now available in Fine Arts and History on Level 6 at the Central Library. These records cover Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
B.C. Birth Registrations Online
FamilySearch's innovative new Record Search Pilot site recently released an online database comprising indexes and digital images of B.C. birth registrations, 1854-1903. This covers the full extent of B.C. birth records released to the public to date. The new database also represents the first time that B.C. civil registration records have been available digitally. Another new feature is the ability to search according to the names of either or both parents.

Read and receive our free semi-annual Genealogical Resources Newsletter, with information about additions to the V.P.L. collection, updates to important databases, interesting websites and other news. E-subscribers to the newsletter also receive occasional alerts regarding newly arrived material of special interest, upcoming workshops, special events etc.
Genealogy Magazines
The Vancouver Public Library has current subscriptions to the following genealogical periodicals published in Canada, the United States and the British Isles. The last two years' of issues are available for browsing in the genealogy area of Fine Arts and History on Level 6 at the Central Library. Earlier issues can be requested in Online Information & News on Level 5. Note that genealogy periodicals cannot be borrowed and must be used in the Library.
Vancouver Public Library owns some of the indexed periodicals. If you are interested in an article published in a periodical which is not received by VPL, it may be possible to obtain a copy via interlibrary loan. Ask for assistance at the Information Desk.
The British Columbia Genealogist [British Columbia]For articles published between approximately 1989-2002, check the Genealogical Periodical Annual Index (Ref. 929.105 G32). This publication indexes a large number of genealogy periodicals published during these years, primarily in North America, including some published in Canada. To see a list of articles relating to Canadian genealogy research, search the index under: CANADA.
