Popular Reading Library

The Popular Reading Library encompasses areas of recreational reading, listening and viewing through a collection of fiction, graphic novels, biography, large print, zines, magazines, DVDs and spoken word audio recordings for adult users. 

With over 57,000 volumes, Popular Reading Library has one of the largest collections of fiction in British Columbia. The fiction collection contains the works of popular, major, English language authors and works in translation of popular, major non-English authors. In addition, it holds a comprehensive collection of Canadian fiction with an emphasis on the works of British Columbian writers. The collection is very broadly based from bestsellers (multiple copies) to esoteric short story collections and experimental novels.

The genre collections, especially Science Fiction, Fantasy and Mysteries, are very well developed. 

Popular Reading Library has a small resource collection of books to assist staff and the public in choosing recreational materials. This collection includes materials which guide patrons wishing to establish their own book clubs; to find a read-a-like and “what to read next” information; to find genre analysis, description and bibliographies; and to find more information on books in series. 

The adult DVD collection for the Central Library is found on Level 2. It is a collection comprised of all DVDs from the subjects departments in the Central Library including movies and TV shows.
