ESL Collection
The Vancouver Public Library has a large English as a Second Language (ESL) Collection that includes books, compact discs, computer software, and DVDs. These materials are available both at the Central Library in the Literature & Social Science Department on Level 3, and at other branches. Some of the areas covered by this collection include: grammar, conversation, idioms, listening, reading, vocabulary, and language test preparation (e.g. TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, etc.) There are also ESL Book Club Sets which can be used for book discussion groups with ESL students. The ESL Collection at Central Library also includes books and magazines for ESL instructors.
ESL Learning Centres
A free drop in program for adults to help improve their English. The program, which is open to landed immigrants, Canadian citizens, and convention refugees, is operated by Vancouver Community College, Outreach Department. Visit the tutor in one of the Learning Centres or phone Vancouver Community College 604-871-7277 to learn more.

To find out about ESL Schools in Vancouver, you can go to the Languages Canada website and click on Approved Programs, where you can search by city/province and program. Languages Canada is an agency that promotes quality, accredited English and French language training in Canada. The Vancouver Public Library Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre has also produced a guide to Higher Level ESL Programs in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.
