Re-inventing Your Library: Tell Us What You Want to Read, Watch and Listen to!

It’s another Free-for-all!

And this time we want to know what your library of the future should look like when it comes to books, movies, music and digital downloads – essentially, the Library collection.

When you look to the future do you picture shelves of hardcover and paperback books, stacks of DVDs and music CDs, and reams of magazines and newspapers? Or do you imagine downloadable eBooks, audio books and music, myriad online information sources and digital devices available at your finger tips? Or a combination of both?

Through February, conversation kits will be available at all VPL branches and online in order for you to join the discussion about Books, Movies, Music & More. So grab some family members, a group of friends or colleagues or settle into a comfy chair to Choose Your Own Adventure®.

On Saturday, February 4, Library staff and Trustees will be at five locations across the city to join you in the adventure of finding out what your ideal library of the future will look like.

And don’t worry about joining a focus group or filling in a questionnaire. This will be a frightfully fun adventure whether you participate on February 4 or by completing the conversation kit alone or in a group.

Choose Your Own Adventure®

Following the fun and popular Choose Your Own Adventure® series, you’ll learn there’s something strange going on in a haunted house and it will be up to you to solve the mystery.

Your adventure begins on a dark and stormy night as you enter a creepy Transylvanian mansion. You’ll meet other adventurers, experience creative and fun activities and share your ideas with Library staff. And, you can win some big prizes!

Free-for-all is a vibrant exchange of ideas and perspectives, a new way to discover your Library and to shape its future. So bring your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours to join in the fun.

Take part in the adventure and let us know what’s important to you. All ages welcome!

On February 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. join the adventure with interactive activities at the:

  • Hillcrest Centre, 4575 Clancy Loranger Way (beside Nat Bailey stadium)
  • West End Community Centre, 870 Denman Street
  • Champlain Heights Shopping Centre, 3200 East 54th Avenue
  • Kerrisdale Community Centre, 5851 West Boulevard
  • Mount Pleasant Centre, 1 Kingsway (at East 7th Avenue)

Or drop off your completed conversation kit at any VPL branch or online by Monday, February 27.

Whether you participate in-person or online, you can enter to win one of three great prizes!

  • An exclusive guided tour of the Central Library green roof: A hands-on adventure!
