VPL’s Readers’ Café

Want to hear the latest news about current hot fiction? Find out which author won what award? Learn about book and writing programs, workshops and events at Vancouver Public Library? Then the Readers’ Café is the place for you.

The online Readers’ Café was created by VPL Popular Reading staff to provide adult readers with a one-stop connection to recommended reading, book reviews, author news and information on programs and events. Whether you like noir or humourous fiction, romance, thrillers, mysteries, Canadian content or westerns, the Readers’ Café will help you find new titles and offer enticements to try new genres.

“Library staff are constantly asked to recommend books and websites, which we love to do, and we thought that by creating an online Readers’ Café we could provide all kinds of great information to many people,” said Robbie Burma, Assistant Manager, Popular Reading.

“The Library runs book clubs, provides sets of books to book clubs and regularly hosts writing workshops and events and we thought having all of this information in one place - the Readers’ Café - would be a valuable service for Library users,” she added.

The information will always be fresh with Popular Reading staff updating the What’s Brewing in the Café homepage feature, the Featured News and Reviews found in the Buzz on Books and other pages at least once a week. So to find out which book is creating the biggest buzz, which author has hit the jackpot by having their book turned into a film, and who are the leading award-winning authors and books, stop in at the Readers’ Café.

We all know how frustrating it can be to find a good book in a sea of seemingly endless options so the Readers’ We Recommend page makes finding your next great read painless and may also introduce you to undiscovered authors.

Lovers of Fantasy, Romance, Mystery, Science Fiction, Thrillers and Western will find annotated reading lists in the All About Fiction section. And if you are wondering What Do I Read Now?, a wealth of links to reading and literature resources, including audio and eBooks and electronic literary databases, will be your guides.

The new VPL Readers' Café is always open and we’re betting it might just have the right brew for you. Come in for a taste!
