Friends Double Their Numbers In 2012!

At the Annual General Meeting on May 8, Friends of the VPL closed a very successful 2011–2012 year. Highlights included a doubling of membership, the election of a new board, and the unveiling of a new website, www.friendsofthevpl.ca.
Friends welcomed new board member Judith Neamtam into the fold, who joins many returning members for an exciting year ahead. There are still a few open spots for enthusiastic library lovers interested in joining the current board. Chief Librarian Sandra Singh addressed the AGM audience and outlined some of the programs that received more than $45,000 from the Friends. Librarian Cecily Walker was on hand to demonstrate the iRover, a mobile interactive whiteboard and projector funded in 2011.
Finally, the Friends unveiled a new website and previewed its features, including an easy-to-use events calendar. The site has a distinctly 1960s style – think Mad Men set in a library – and plans were made at the AGM to stage a photo shoot with members and friends in costume.
