A Get Together With Friends!

Who doesn’t love to get together with friends! And here’s an opportunity to make new friends.
On May 8, the Friends of Vancouver Public Library will hold their 2012 Annual General Meeting at the Central Library’s Alma VanDusen & Peter Kaye rooms.
In addition to electing 2012 Board members, there will be a review of funding submissions from Library staff to determine the programs and services the Friends will fund in 2012. The Friends annually provide funds for programs like the Library’s Writer-in-Residence program, the Writing & Book Camp for 11- to 16-year-old writers as well as support for multilingual, children’s and digital programs and services.
The Library’s Chief Librarian Sandra Singh will talk about the future of the Library and social media expert Tim Wearing of High Dough Studio will lead a unique and collaborative workshop about online community-building and a peak at the Friends new website that is under development.
The AGM starts at 6 p.m. and Friends of VPL memberships will be for sale for $5. And there will be door prizes!
The Friends of VPL is a non-profit volunteer organization that raises funds to support Library programs and services that otherwise wouldn’t exist. They are also one of the Library’s strongest community advocates and welcome new members to strengthen that important role.
