Choosing a Program
Specialized genealogy software programs are very useful. Programs typically provide forms that allow you to enter information about your ancestors, and include options for generating various types of charts and reports. Note: Many genealogy programs offer free demos on their websites.
Genealogy magazines often carry detailed reviews of specific genealogy software programs. Titles available at the Vancouver Public Library include Family History Monthly, Family Tree Magazine, and Internet Genealogy

Availability
Availability of genealogy software in the Vancouver area is very limited.
Most popular programs have their own websites, and are available either by download, on CD-ROM, or both. Downloading may be a better option, since most products are based in the U.S., and there may be additional fees for bringing them across the border. Two vendors (Heredis and Legacy) provide free standard versions and sell deluxe editions.
