Compressed Work Week
Employees participate in a compressed work week plan whereby they work additional time each work day in order to have a 9 day work week schedule in a 2 week period.

Vacation
Most employees begin with 15 days of vacation in the first year of employment, to a maximum of 30 days by year 24. These employees also receive 5 days of supplementary vacation in the 11th year and every 5 years thereafter.
Librarians receive 22 days of vacation as well as long service leave every 5 years starting in their 16th year.

Comprehensive Health & Welfare Benefits
•    The Medical Service Plan (MSP) – insures medically required services provided by physicians and supplementary health care practitioners, laboratory services and diagnostic procedures in BC.
•    Extended Health Coverage (EHC) – provides an extra level of medical protection and security over and above the coverage received with MSP. EHC coverage includes items and services such as: prescription drugs, acupuncturist, chiropractor, naturopath, physiotherapist, massage practitioner, podiatrist, counsellor, speech therapist, hearing aids, vision care and orthotics.
•    Dental Services Plan – offers various types of coverage for basic dental services, crowns and bridges as well as orthodontics.
•    Life Insurance – VPL provides basic and optional life insurance. The basic group life insurance policy pays the insured amount to a beneficiary or estate in the event of death. The optional life plan offers an opportunity for employees and/or their spouses to supplement existing group life insurance programs and select the amount of coverage.
•    A generous Sick Leave Plan including Long-Term Disability coverage provided through the Union.
•    Gratuity Plan – to promote and maintain healthy employees, VPL has an incentive program in place to recognize employees that have taken little or no sick leave.

Pension Plan
Both the employee and the employer contribute to the Municipal Pension Plan. The plan provides a monthly pension upon retirement based on a formula and certain guidelines.

Vancouver Employee Savings Plan (VESP)
A specific percentage of an employee’s earnings are deducted, the amount is matched by the employer and the funds are deposited into a savings plan in the employee’s name. 

RRSP
Employees are offered the convenience of contributing to an RRSP through payroll deductions.

Supplementary Employment Insurance Benefits (SEIB)
The SEIB plan is available to all birth mothers who are entitled to maternity leave and who are in receipt of EI benefits. The plan is also available to birth fathers in specific circumstances.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Most employees, at some point in their lives, have difficulty solving a personal problem. VPL offers support during these times by providing access to EAP – a free and confidential service where counsellors are available to assist employees and their family as well as retired employees.

Earned Days Off
Employees participate in the EDO plan whereby they work an additional 30 minutes per day and earn an additional 15 days off per year.

Vacation
Vacation entitlement for exempt employees depends on the employee’s pay level. In general, employees begin with 20 days per year to a maximum of 35 days by year 24.
