Role of the Board
The Vancouver Public Library Board is responsible for developing library policy and works with the Chief Librarian and Library management to oversee Canada's third-largest public library system, featuring a landmark Central Library and 20 library branches across the city.
The Library Board is made up of 13 volunteer members appointed by Vancouver City Council. Ten Trustees are members of the general public appointed for two-year terms, one Vancouver City Councillor is appointed annually, and because the Library has joint operating agreements with the Vancouver Park Board and School Board, City Council appoints one member from each of these elected Boards to sit on the Library Board.
Board meetings are held monthly and members of the public and delegations are welcome to attend. Please call 604-331-4003 to request to speak.
